16 year old seeking job, any ideas?
Recently I have been searching for a job.
I am 16, no license so I am not able to drive myself places.
I have looked around the internet and applied and several places like;
Kmart
Flying J
Boston Market
Wal Mart
and Target
it’s been two weeks and I haven’t had any calls from any of the places listed above.
I’ve also looked around at places near home, asking for applications.
I have no other ideas.
Any ideas?
It’s really hard to get a job because there are so many people applying…it’s normal for them to not call back, happened to me too. your best chance is to apply at as many places as you reasonably can. You could try local grocery stores, stores in the mall, fast food places, restaurants, a daycare, a summer camp for kids, the library, the bowling alley, the skating rink, a gym or pool, ChuckE Cheese, ice cream store, the book store, the movie rental place, a hair salon, a tour guide for a museum (idk… probably need some experience for that) a craft store, anywhere.
… other ideas… If you know any parents with kids, you could offer to babysit. You could try being open to mow people’s lawns, trim bushes, do yardwork( a few steps up from the old lemonade stand idea) and put up ads and a phone number.
If you are artistic, you could try making stuff like purses and jewelry (if you are a girl) and selling it … at a festival? (I don’t know where it’s legal to sell stuff)… idk how successful it would be, though
… other hints… I was in a similar situation… I tried applying but was unsuccessful. They want to see experience, even though everyone has to start somewhere, which makes it hard if you are just starting to look around. It is also good to have a steady means of transportation to get there, b/c if you don’t you simply won’t be able to come to work at all!! (I had the same problem, but it was no car) Another thing you might still have going for you though is being willing to work at many diff. times t/o the week, as they have more options where to put your hours, so if you are open time-wise, this is good. Also, this often still fails 90% of the time, but if you call the store to ask them about your job application (when they don’t call in 2 weeks) they may take you into more consideration b/c you care enough to call and show persistence. Many times though, they will just be busy/ put you on hold/ and not remember at all that you called as they have to answer the phone a million times. (It never hurts to try, though) It is also easier to get a job if your parents work there, or you know someone who works there (wink, wink). Or so I’ve heard.
